I’m loathe to admit it. Not because I’m a man, but because its a piece of technology. This kind of thing isn’t worthy of an emotional response, and yet I’ve been an Apple fanboy for almost as many years as Apple has been around. Unlike most pundits, however, I don’t have the funds to warrant going out and buying one (it was nearly as bad as giving birth when I bought my first and only iPod!). I, certainly like millions of others, will just have to wait until finances right themselves or God on High blesses me with one (yeah, right!).

I won’t be quoted on this (which is about as enforceable as jaywalking laws in NYC since I’m posting this on the interweb) but I believe they have a 5 year exclusive contract with AT&T, or whomever they will be by then. While prices will likely eventually come down, it won’t happen any time soon.
I’m interested in seeing how much the cost of the actual iPhone goes down and how quickly, as well as when Apple will make the technology compatible with other providers. Remember when the iPod first came out? $500. Then six months later, 12, 24, 36 – $99. And online, even less, for more Gigs. As much as the iPhone stirs feelings inside me, and it always has, ultimately because of those feelings and longings, I’ve developed a “wait and see” stance. Self preservation, really. Otherwise, I’d go mad. ;-P
I’m hovering on the edge. The two-year contract thing scares me, plus there’s the whole “giving AT&T my social security #” bit. But it’s just such a nice piece of kit. I’ve always hated cell phones, and now there’s one that Doesn’t Suck. Can I keep my wallet closed? (insert Paris Hilton joke here)
