The real deal is a tad larger than this image, but the Eye-Fi line of Wi-Fi enabled SD cards is small. Well, they’ve now jumped from just one to three available models. You can get the Skyhook geotagging version for US$129, the sharing version for US$99, and the basic uploading version for US$79. All models come with 2GB of storage space.

Bold? What the hell? Are we running out of cool names?AT&T has yet another exclusive deal, this time with RIM for its new, oddly named Blackberry Bold. The new handset, which features the highest resolution screen on any Blackberry to date, dual-band Wi-Fi, GPS, and high speed networking ala AT&T’s speedy network technologies, will be available starting sometime this Summer. RIM has also announced that it will be adding support to its network and unspecified handsets for Microsoft’s sad HotMail and Messenger properties. Functionality will include push, real-time sync, and full HTML support. The Messenger component will get “PC-like” IMing, animated emoticons, and custom status messages.

Now THATS green! The green little smiley face to the left is the conceptual interface design on the new idea about how we use and consume energy. The idea, called Green Plug, is designed from the ground up to change the way our devices and systems consume power, and if you couldn’t already guess, in an ecologically responsible fashion. Typical power supplies leak energy when not in use, but the Green Plug system is designed to tightly control exactly what gets how much power and when.

Green Plug has already designed the chipset and is offering it to companies to integrate into their device and system designs, however, there is no list of vendors who’ve signed on just yet. Hopefully there will be some soon.

Could this be evidence that Apple will be shipping 3G handsets soon?More and more juicy little tidbits about Apple’s move to 3G in its second gen iPhone handsets keeps popping up. The image here is apparently from the latest edition of the SDK beta program from Apple, clearly indicating that 3G will be an option. Allowing users to turn off 3G, and likely continue to use the EDGE network, could very easily be one way for Apple to guarantee its battery lifetime instead of waiting for lower consumption hardware. There’s also additional evidence from AT&T itself that suggests the long talked about “Black” handset is a reality.

PDA Handyman opened its internet doors in 2001 and in 2002 we started offering the Ask The Handyman feature. It was a hit and I even have a selection of the early ones in the Ye Olde News section. We had a server crash in October 2002 which lead to the move to a new host. A couple of years later we were hacked by a funny guy who thought he was cool by squashing our database and losing nearly 2,000 stories, opinion pieces, reviews, and yes, Ask The Handyman entries. That event hit us hard as we had to live with the fact that we had not safely backed everything up and that some punk had knocked all of our hard work down because he felt it was validating.

So now, a few hundred hours of therapy and anti-depression prescriptions later we’re able to fire it up again! Bust out your old quandrys and new issues. We take anything and everything. We once had a reader who had searched for a regular handyman find us and ask us about what a re-modeling of his kitchen should cost. We answered him! Head on over to the Contact Us page and click the link to get started!

Here’s an interesting one. Ubuntu, the Linux-based OS which is being touted as the first distribution of the open source project which is truly accessible to general users, is apparently heading to a Sharp Zaurus near you. Okay, you’ll have to put it on there yourself and you’ll have to acquire the Zaurus if you don’t already have one, and THEN you’ll have to run it in an emulator to add stuff to it before finally copying it over to your device, but it works. I’d say hop on this one right now only if you are Linux savvy, adventurous, and don’t use your Zaurus for anything else. It is pretty damn cool, though. [Source: Linux Devices]

IDC has published a report that is suggesting that while the new micro laptop craze will be significant, it will not dominate the market as early interest is causing many to speculate. IDC is defining a very low cost micro lappy as a sub-$500 unit with a 7-10″ display, wireless support, and they ability to run a full OS and they reference the OLPC and ASUS Eee PC as examples. More can be read here.
