CES: Product Announcement Hoedown #1
I’ve been distracted lately, so here’s a rundown of a slew of new products announcements from CES last week. iLuv rolled out a new 9″ portable media player which integrates a DVD player and an iPod dock and can read media data from USB and SD/MMC cards. There’s no pricing details, but its due in March. Sony announced their new X-series Walkman device, the NWZ-X1000, which comes in 16GB and 32GB flavors. The device sports an OLED touchscreen, noise cancelling technology, and integrated wi-fi for web browsing and there’s no pricing or launch date yet. Memorex has jumped onto the touchscreen PMP bandwagon with their new TouchMP device, a 2.8″ color unit with 8GBs of storage, a microSD cardslot (no indication if its SDHC capable), and an FM tuner all for US$99, debuting in March. A company called GiiNii debuted their Movit Mini and Movit Maxx Android-powered, wi-fi enabled internet tablets which sport 4.3″ or 7″ capacitive-touch touchscreens with meager screen resolutions and storage options but are still very cool looking. They will price less than an iPod touch (I sure as hell hope with only 256MBs of storage) and appear sometime in the middle of the year. Finally, iRiver usshed out their new P7 PMP with a 4.3″ screen, comes in 4, 8, and 16GB versions, and does NOT sport wi-fi. It comes in “Apple Blinding White”, as far as I can tell. There are no release details.
More to come as soon as I work through more releases and details from Engadget, Gizmodo, and other sources.
