The Worst Album of the 20th Century

The guy getting hit with the cannonball should be David Lee Roth, especially after the Decade of Sammy
I love music and couldn’t live without it, but I usually don’t write about it. Not sure why, really. I have a rather diverse set of interests. I’m a huge fan of Rush, Bruce Hornsby, and Sixpence None The Richer just to name a few, so you can see why I might be a bit odd. Anyway, I was combing through my collection and have been on a Van Halen jag lately. Some years back my wife picked up a copy of Van Halen III since she knew I was a big fan from back in the day.
I must have blanked out the experience, because I don’t remember listening to the worst album ever made and then ripping the CD to my MP3 library, but I did. I still have the CD, which is a clear indication of the onset of Alzheimer’s. So, I’m rolling through some classic VH, their first album and Van Halen II, which Van Halen III comes on. I was literally stunned by how bad it is. I’m going to bet that the Library of Congress refused a copy of this album because it actually detracts from the National canon of music. Its like a blackhole of talent.
There you have it. Van Halen III is the worst album of the 20th century. Period. For the record, the best Van Halen album is Fair Warning, one of the best rock albums forever. Head over to iTunes and download a copy. You won’t regret it. Fantastic piece of work. There’s also Women and Children First, Diver Down, and 1984. Hell, all of the DLR period is tops. You might as well just get the whole kit and kaboodle.
