About The Dojo
BTW, It’s pronounced: MOE - BOE - DOE - JOE
Mobo = Mobile gear and gadgets which make me happy
Dojo = A place to chill out and reflect on life
MoboDojo = A chill place to kick back and reflect on cool mobile tech
MoboDojo wasn’t always called MoboDojo. In the dark ages of the intarweb before Web 2.0 came along, it was known as PDA Handyman, and it was one of the hottest sites for news, views, and reviews of PDAs and mobile gear of all kinds. Back then it competed with PDA Buzz and worked alongside PalmInfoCenter and other sites.
Today PDAs are more than simply passè. They almost don’t exist any more, as they have morphed into smartphones, portable media players, and other handheld devices. There are very few simple PDAs, unless you count the Apple iPod Touch (it counts in our book). So, I decided to change the name and the focus.
MoboDojo is the home of what sites like Engadget and Gizmodo wanted to be when they started. The Dojo is the source for all news, reviews, opinions, and features about, around, inside, along, beside, against, and snuggled up to mobile devices and hardware of all kinds. I don’t do fluff pieces. I don’t act as if the site is a web version of the Jackass movies. I don’t hide the truth from my readers. I don’t pull punches.
I cover what you want covered. Real, quick, detailed news about mobile gear. If I have an opinion about something and it has nothing to do with the actual news, I don’t print it (or at least I try not to). If, however, there’s an aspect I feel I should point out, I do. After all, I’ve been doing this since 2001. I have practice.
I hope you enjoy the site. The readership numbers indicate you do.

Tyler Regas
Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor, Contributor, Pundit, Head Nerd
BIO: Born in California in 1968, I was birthed as a hippy to a hippy and cared for by neo-hippies who were more conservative than I would have liked. It clearly had a significant impact on me, as I’m pretty much certifiable. As I child I tore everything apart. Soon after, I was able to put it back together again. Not much later I received my first computer, a Tandy TRS-80. Since then I’ve been through IBMs, Ataris, TIs, a wide range of clones, and Apples. Mostly Apples. The first Apple was an Apple ][e. Since then I’ve had an \\c, Macintosh 128K, Mac Classic, IIfx, IIci, a few Centras, some Quadras, a slew of PowerBooks, and now a MacBook and a MacBook Pro.
(Of course, I’m not mentioning the PowerBook 3400c, the Dell C600, the Palm T|X, and the MOTO RAZR which I also use either daily or at least often.)
I’ve also had about every category of PDA there has been. I have Casios, NEC MobilePros, Palms, and a ton I no longer have. My prize, however, is a box full of Apple Newton MessagePad devices ranging from the MP110 through to an MP2000 with the MP2100 upgrade card in it. If I haven’t proven how certifiable I am yet, nothing will.
As a professional, I was a chef and restaurant manager for about 8 years, then I moved to writing. I spent 10 years working on over 250 different computer book projects. I’ve been a Director of IT, a consultant, a project manager, and a helpdesk guy. I’ve worked in cement, advertising, education, and once in a startup which failed (decent idea, crappy execution). I’m now the managed services manager for a large consultancy in Los Angeles with an SME role in Mac OS X system deployments for enterprise and education.
On the side, I run The Dojo. Yes. Its a blog, or sorts. I tend to run things more professionally than what a blog is generally considered (unless you use Gizmodo as a bellweather, then I’m the opposite). I operate and update The Dojo all by my lonesome. I’ve tried to get others as engaged as I am, but they don’t seem to have the same drive as I do, so I’m sticking it out all alone. I’ve had writing partners in the past, but they’ve never lasted. Whoomp, there it is!

Rima is my, uh… wife. I’d like to think she does what I say, but I have a significant amount of evidence that this is not the case. Despite my attempts to run things, she interferes, and it works the way it should have had I not decided to impart my particular style of wisdom. She also tries to fix my speeling mistakes, but I rarley give har the chsnge.

Hi,
I hope you are well and remember me from my last email. If not, allow me to remind you. After coming across your site mobodojo.com while doing some browsing on Google, I found it somewhat related to the subject of my sites. That is why I offered to buy spot for text-links on your site.
Do come back to me on this if you would like to hear more.
Waiting to hear from you,
Cheers,
Steven Patrick
