FlyJacket on H3900 Series iPAQ?
Posted by Tyler Regas on August 31, 2002 03:42 PM

William's question is: "Do you know if the LifeView Flyjacket i3800 will work with the iPAQ H3900 series?"

This would seem like a question that is easy to answer. The H3900 series is a veritible clone of the H3800 series iPAQ, so the FlyJacket should work. What are the differences? First, the CPU in the H3900 series is the Intel XScale PXA-250 running at 400MHz. The H3800 series and older iPAQs use the ARM SA-1110 CPU which runs at 206MHz. Despite this fact, the PXA-250 processor is compatible with the SA-1110 so the H3900s will run anything that will run on an H3800. That fact sort of eliminates the CPU as a potential stumbling block.

The only other suspect is the added Bluetooth componentry. Bluetooths addition changes the way the mainboard is wired, so it might also change compatibility. This is unlikely, but Bluetooth drivers might also cause an incompatiblity and I doubt they can be removed. I've not had a chance to evaluate one, but I'd think that HP (formerly Compaq) would have made the drivers a part of the ROM.

If any readers have had experience with the H3900 and the LifeView i3800 FlyJacket, please use the TalkBack feature to let us know about it.
