Reading PWI Files On The Desktop?
Posted by Tyler Regas on October 13, 2002 10:40 AM

Khrome's question is: "I have lost my HP Jornada and my hard drive has crashed. Luckily I have saved most of my important notes on a Compact Flash card. What can I use to view Pocket Word's PWI file format so that I can get to my info?"

I am sorry for your loss, but your loss is not complete as you have saved your important files to your storage card. Also fortunate for you is that Microsoft Word 2000 and 2002 (also known as Word XP) will automatically open PWI files without conversion. If you don't have Word, you are out of luck as WordPad does not recognize PWI files. Of course, you can place the file onto a floppy and take it to your local Kinko's.

If the only Word you have available is for the Macintosh, don't dispair. When you try to open the file it will ask you what format you want to convert the file from. Select the Recover Text From Any File option and click OK. It will lose all of its formatting, but you'll have the information!

I hope that helps you out, Khrome! --The HandyMan

I got the same problem and believe me I intend to solve it by the afternoon. If e'thing gets to the worst then I will upgrade to Word XP.
