Toshiba Releases Three New e550 Models
Posted by Tyler Regas on November 01, 2002 03:11 PM

Toshiba has announced the upcoming release of three new Genio e550 devices, the GS, the GX, and the GX/MD. They will only be released in Japan at this time and there is no indication that these models will be made available anywhere else. All three devices will retain the same outward appearance of the original e550, but from there things change dramatically. All models run Pocket PC 2002 and come with a 400MHz PXA-250, SD and CF expansion slots, SDIO and SD-Audio support, and that gorgeous 4" TFT display. Where the models differ is RAM and supplied options. The GS has 64MBs, the GX has 128MBs, and the GX/MD has 128MBs of RAM and comes with a 1GB IBM Microdrive. Toshiba is also offering a Wi-Fi sled and a PC CardBus sled. The information is all in Japanese, so we don't have all of the details, but we are working on getting them. One nice new feature is that the new Genios can scale the 400MHz PXA-250 back to 100MHz to conserve battery power.
