Sharp has been busy. Not only did they announce an updated, XScale based SL-5600 for the US and Canadian markets, but they also dropped a pair of new Zaurii on Japan. The first is nothing more than a version of the US-bound SL-5600 called the SL-B500. The other device, however, is the very clamshell unit that Sharp recently showed off at the CEATEC show in Tokyo earlier this year. This model has been dubbed the SL-C700, and is a bit more than was expected from the images of it inside of a glass case.
The SL-C700 is designed to work in much the same way as the recently introduced Tablet PC Convertibles. When open, the display can swivel around and lay back down over the keyboard, presenting a larger handheld device format. The unit sports a 640x480 16-bit display, 64MBs of RAM, 30MBs of protected storage, and a 32MB ROM. The device also incorporates CompactFlash and Secure Digital slots like its brethren. Other features are not clear at this time, but we will get them to you when we can.
