The Annual PHM Editor's Wish List List
Posted by Tyler Regas on November 29, 2002 11:59 PM

Every year (okay, this is the first year!) the editor's of PDA HandyMan like to get together and chit chat about what we'd like to have for the holidays if our scope was unlimited. Each of us render the results down into ten of our favorites and publish them here for your perusal. Heck, it's far more interesting a read than those thousands of buyer's guides that dot the internet landscape and dominate the covers of pretty much every print magazine there is. So, Happy Holidays to all whether you celebrate Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, or any other holiday. Click through for the list of lists!

-Westley Annis (Pocket PC Editor) - Our intrepid editor-at-large's list eventually latches onto a few flaws he sees in his favorite platform, but still manages to have fun!
-Daniel Gray (Wireless Editor) - Dan's a funny guy and his list is yet another victim of his endless wit. Careful when reading about his Treo obsession, you might catch it!
-Paul Robichaux (Palm OS Editor) - Paul escaped his cage years ago and we still haven't caught him, which likely explains his list! Seriously though, Paul's a good egg and he loves his Palm's (devices, that is).
-MC Brown (UK Editor-in-Chief) - MC is a no-nonsense kind of guy but he gets the great UK scoops. MC also most clearly exhibits PHM's social conscience, but he loves his gadgets, too!
-Tyler Regas (Publisher, Editor-in-Chief) - Tyler has been afflicted with Emphatic Gadgetitis Majoris for longer than any of us, but you likely already know that. Tyler has some demands for the mobile industry, so they'd better listen!
-Walter Glenn (Contributing Editor) - Walt has been busy this year, but not too busy to offer a list of his own. You'll likely find from his list that Walter is the most succinct and direct editor amongst we editorii (that's not a word).
-The HandyMan (Editorus Repugnantus) - He made us publish his list or he would have invited himself over for dinner. See below for his list! You've been warned!! His entry issues from the Grotto of Misery, the HandyMan's home.

Show us your list!

Greetings from the Grotto, my friends. The HandyMan has a list, too. The HandyMan would also preamble his list with a spotty, personalizing biography as well, but his past is shaded in tortuous mystery! Ooooh. Here's the list, and it's not nearly as bad as those guys would have you think:

...Oh, and mine is in order of importance...

Here it is, really:

...Oh, and please don't skip to the bottom! The order is important...

Here we go now, for real this time:

10: One (1) years supply of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. They're mighty tasty, ain't they. A few palettes of Spam would be nice, too.

9: A pair of Sony CLIE NX70V's each outfitted with my 160GB radioactive Memory Sticks. Sony isn't interested in my memory stick modifications, though. They complain about radiation poisoning or something. At least with two Clies I could get that fuzzy-logic stereoscopic vision I've been looking for.

8: An anvil with a complete set of steak knives.

7: A ReplayTV model 4532 320-hour DVR. I could store the entire collection of "My Mother The Car" episodes! Cool!!

6: A Tadpole SPARCbook 6500 with 4GB of RAM. Nothing much, really.

5: A parachute.

4: A Lasco Guardian 1000 crowd control vehicle. Don't ask. Lasco International does some great retrofit work, too. I've had five vehicles redone by Lasco and love each and every one of them. Nobody else does, but what does that matter. Wes' lame Mach 5 couldn't touch my hardened Countach with twin Stinger heatseeking missle launchers, slug-loaded Chemical Oxygen-Iodine Laser (COIL) weapon, and a radiating Mobile Active Denial System (MADS), as well as mines, slicks, and fogging obfuscation systems.

3: I like chocolate. Did I mention that or did I just mention Reese's?

2: A Sharp Zaurus SL-C700 "Convertible" PDA. This is the killer sweetie, I tell you. You can either use it like a miniature laptop in clamshell mode or flip around the display and fold it back over the keyboard and use it as a large PDA. This is the one device that is closing in on that size sweetspot that falls between the miniscule Handspring Treo 90 and the super Apple Newton MessagePad 2100. Couple that with a fast 400MHz PXA250 Intel XScale processor and the excellent Linux distribution receiving polish on earlier Zaurii and you have a serious winner.

Too bad it's only in Japan? Not even! Dynamism is one of PHM's most beloved retailers because they bring killer Japanese only gear over here. Not only do they deck it out in an English version of the OS but they also offer full support for whatever you buy. Dynamism will be shipping English language SL-C700s starting in mid-December!! YEAH!!! Where's mine!! The price is a seemingly steep US$699, but its a hell of deal from my perspective!

1: A Microsoft Xbox, Sega GT 2002 and Jet Set Radio Future bundle for US$199.99 and a steaming hot copy of Mech Assault for US$49.95. Talk about kicking butt!

Well, it looks like you could have skipped to the end after all! Have a happy, safe, enriching holiday season, gentle readers!!!
