UPDATED: Casio Announces E-3000
Posted by Tyler Regas on January 23, 2003 08:15 AM

UPDATE: According to Casio is claiming a battery life of 15 hours for the standard pack and 30 hours for the optional pack (See next page). Also, a correction from the original piece, Casio states that they will produce 50,000 units per month. Casio will apparently ship the product in March, but no pricing information is available.

In a surprise move, Casio has announced a new Cassiopeia device, apparently for the Japanese market. The E-3000 is remarkable in several ways, but most notably in that it uses Pocket PC 2002 instead of Casio's proprietary implementation of Windows CE 3.0 Pro for their BE-300 Pocket Manager. The device features a 400MHz XScale processor, a 3.5" 16-bit color display, both CF Type-II and SD/MMC expansion slots, and what appears to be a very large optional battery pack. Both the ClearVue and Acrobat Reader applications are bundled with the device. While we cannot determine when this device will be available in Japan or if Casio intends to make it available in other countries it is an official release, so it shouldn't be that far off. Pricing is set at 50,000 (approx. US$423).
