The Dojo is taking a very brief break for the holidays, after which we will return with more of what we do. While we do not celebrate anything in particular (aside from my daughter’s birthday) for the holiday season, we do celebrate family, love, hope, and peace. All of us at The Dojo with these things upon you and yours no matter what corner of the planet you happen to live.

Sincerely,

Tyler Regas
Editor-in-Chief

Hey all. I just activated a new default theme. Its based on Mac OS X and looks quite nice, at least to me. The old theme is still available via the theme selector if you prefer that, or you can geek out with our Classic Mac theme. Anyway, enjoy the new collapsible, re-positionable sidebar widgets! Just click the button or drag them around. Pretty slick, eh!

As you may have noted, we’ve been in a news blackhole since Thanksgiving. This isn’t all that surprising, but its kind of annoying nonetheless. Most energy seems to be focused on Black Friday and spinning up the X-mas Machine. Sure, there were some items in the last two weeks, but nothing of any real import. I’ve received a Palm Centro and a Duracell PowerSource Mobile 100 for review and the Apple Rumors machine is about to kick in prior to 2008 so there’s sure to be more soon. I will, however, start working on the other elements of the site when times are slow.

In actual mobile gear news, Engadget seems to be all freaked out about how odd the Wibrain UMPC is, and I agree. Its very odd looking and, despite its smallish 4.8″ display, that thing has to be really, really wide. I’m more into the OQO model of design with the sliding keyboard. I can even handle raon’s Everun arrangement. Oh well, I guess everyone has to have their “thing”.

I’ve made some MORE changes to The Collection, so go take a look. I’ve made more complete entries, cleaned up the formatting, and added some hardware which was missing before. I’ll be adding resource links soon, so keep checking in.

I’m pleased to announce that, after only a few weeks back as MoboDojo, the new home of PDA Handyman, our readership has jumped dramatically. I’m pleased to see this, and look forward to providing our readers with our particular brand of mobile gear news, reviews, and opinions. We will be adding some contributors, as well, so look for a jump in story count over the coming months.

On a personal note, I want to thank everyone who has stood by The Dojo in it darkest days and I want to assure you that we are looking forward to some very bright ones, indeed. -Ed.

I was thrilled beyond belief when contributor ER found the new theme we are now offering. If you look to the right you will see a new item called the Theme Switcher. As you can see, there is our theme, MoboDojo PHM, and there is now the new Retro MacOS. I’ll warn you up front, it doesn’t have the same features as the default theme. Its more like an RSS feed than a website. It is a hoot, though! Many thanks to Stuart Brown, the theme designer!

Okay, so not quite back yet. I have some wrangling to do with the domain, but for all intents and purposes, I’m reopening the venerable mobile gear site. The original site ran from 2000 to 2006 and at its greatest peak drew nearly 250,000 monthly readers from around the world. Right now, MoboDojo yields around 1,100 and my love of mobile technology is so strong I just can’t ignore it. I hope you enjoy, and please feel free to let me know if I’m doing things right.

In case you hadn’t noticed, a glitch in the PHP processor on our server caused the site to be down for around 24 hours. Since you’re reading this, it is now available again. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Falling in line with our corporate mandate, we also offer a mobile version of the site. We can’t yet offer all features and functions of the full site in the handheld iteration, but it does work well. You don’t even have to memorize a different address! Just direct your mobile browser to the site you know and love and we will feed you the correct pages.

Yeah. I hate what I just posted before this. Sue me. What can I say, though. I need to get certain issues off my chest and I’m unwilling to implicate other parties. Only those open enough to look deeply within their own human flaws will know I’m speaking of them… or not. Hmm.
